'Palm Springs'

CAST: Andy Samberg, Cristin Milioti, and J.K. Simmons

RATING: R

DESCRIPTION: LikeGroundhog Daybut with more physics and math (and company to suffer through time loops with), Palm Springsis a sci-fi romantic comedy that, like the cursed cave in the movie, will pull you in again and again. Samberg and Milioti are excellent, jaded, and hilarious protagonists, who, with the addition of Simmons, serve up performances that your stoned lil brain will eat right up. This is the perfect movie for a high that has you feeling like you're ready to solve the secrets of the universe (or at the very least, of time and why having to go to the same wedding repeatedly would be enough to drive anyone spare), so check out this Hulu Original if you're ready to exercise your mind.

Then look no further, becauseRick and Mortyis the perfect (and perhaps only) show to ease this very specific craving. Thanks to the beauty of animation, the possibilities and world-building in this crass, funny, and smart Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon-created sci-fi sitcom are pretty much endless, so watch this series to partake in the kind of healthy dose of creative genius and outright insanity best enjoyed under the influence.

'Nathan For You'

NATHAN FOR YOU, Nathan Fielder, (Season 1), 2013-, ph: Michael Underwood/©Comedy Central/courtesy Ev
Everett Collection

CAST: Nathan Fielder

RATING: TV-14

DESCRIPTION: Nathan Fielder won't blow your mind with wild sci-fi theories or let loose bright colors and attention-grabbing special effects, but he absolutely will sate your high mind with his audacity and (at times cringe-inducing, but no less impressive) commitment to the bit. InNathan For You, Fielder presents himself as a business man and goes to absurd lengths to help small-business owners expand their respective businesses, all with a certain level of earnestness, awkwardness, and deadpan delivery that we actually can't help but find a little charming (and a lot hilarious). Perhaps what makes this Comedy Central docu-reality series so great for a stoned viewing is Fielder, himself, whom perhaps we can only begin to understand with a mind on drugs. Because seriously, what even is he, and how the heck does he always keep a straight face? A good trip just may help us mind out.

RATING: PG

DESCRIPTION: High or not,Spider-man: Into the Spider-verseis an excellent movie that absolutely earned its 2018 Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, and deserves so much more. Like being watched while under the influence of the Devil's Lettuce. This movie's got it all: incredible animation, bright colors, a rockin' soundtrack, a star-studded cast, heartwarming and tear-jerking moments, and plenty of comedy gold (I mean a talking pig named "Peter Porker"?! That willnevernot be hilarious!). Stoners, superhero lovers, and cinephiles can all unite to delight in this movie-watching experience on 4/20 (and every day before and after, too).

RATING: TV-MA

DESCRIPTION: So, maybe sciencey, mind-bending content is your thing but you'd rather be freaked out than laughing. Netflix Original anthology seriesBlack Mirrorhas been consistently blowing our brains since 2011 with its dystopian and often dark sci-fi themes. While a stoned viewing session may make it hard for you to sleep that night (seriously, if you tend to get paranoid while high, this probably isn't the show for you), if you're in the right frame of mind for it, watching this series while high just might captivate you and your noggin' in only the best and most thought-provoking ways.

'Soul'

CAST: Jamie Foxx, Tina Fey, Graham Norton, Angela Bassett, and Questlove

RATING: PG

DESCRIPTION: Existential crisis, but make it cute. That's basically the watered down version of Pixar's 2020 animated fantasy comedy-drama Soul, which could either have your high brain spiraling into stressed out shambles (because how do we really know what our purpose is in life anyway and what if we never find it?!) or move you to laugh and cry while simultaneously inspiring you that your life purpose is out there and so you shouldn't give up on your dreams. The bright colors and lively animation alone will prove very welcome for whatever trip you're feeling, but the talented voice cast and smart, impactful writing will go the extra mile in creating a fun and fulfilling experience.

The bright colors, psychedelic vibe, fantastical world, and extra layer of thought-provoking introspectiveness all culminate to make The Midnight Gospel, an eight-episode series seemingly tailor-made for a good trip. If you're in the mood for something a little deeper that will get you thinking about life and death while still being eye-catching and aesthetically pleasing, then join spacecaster Clancy Gilroy (Trussell) on his intergalactic journey in this Netflix Original series.
